Dear friends and colleagues,
As I am sure you have been inundated with news, distance learning information, your own children’s needs, texts, whatsapps and more, I will leave you with something brief.
During this time I have found myself thinking about my late Oma. Someone who was faced with immense adversity and challenges throughout her life. Growing up in Germany during WWII, her life looked very different than mine. Of these hardships she lived through, she still managed to take great pleasure in the simple things in life. She would call us long distance from Toronto, telling our family about the spring robins that approached her window, the lovely conversations she had with a stranger at the grocery store, or the fresh fruit she was growing in her garden (the perks of living in Ontario!). Everything she did was done with care and gratitude.
For me, now is a time to remember not only what is important, but to slow down and take joy in the simple moments that I often take for granted. In such uncertain and stressful times this may be much easier said than done, especially if you have loved ones you are caring for, children at home or a general concern for the state of society. I will leave you with a document that MTS has created for all of us. It has great advice on working from home as well as advice on how to take care of yourself while working from home.

I wish you all a safe, restful and healthy spring break. Be well,
